A loan agreement is only as strong as the security behind it and the ability to enforce that security when things go wrong. We advise lenders and borrowers on bilateral and syndicated facilities, acquisition and project finance, and the security packages that support them. For international banks lending into Egypt, we explain which forms of collateral will hold up locally and what has to be registered, notarised or approved for them to work. For borrowers, we focus on terms they can live with over the life of the facility: covenants, events of default and the room to refinance. We also handle Islamic finance structures and, when a business comes under financial pressure, the renegotiation and restructuring of its existing debt.
